Working Principle: The Secret of Homogeneity
The primary purpose of an industrial concrete mixer is to mix all components homogeneously in the shortest possible time and with the least amount of energy. This process ensures that each aggregate grain (sand, gravel) is completely coated with the cement paste (a mixture of water and cement). Modern mixers from STS Global utilize one of two basic principles to achieve this goal:
- Forced Mixing: Materials are moved in a forced orbit within a fixed vessel by rotating paddles or stars. This method creates high shear forces, mixing the ingredients together and ensuring a more homogeneous mixture. Pan, Planetary, Single, and Double Shaft mixers operate on this principle.
- Free Fall Mixing: This method, seen in conventional concrete mixers, involves a rotating drum lifting the material upward and then lowering it back down under the influence of gravity. It's particularly suitable for smaller-scale construction sites.
