Cement Silo

Cement silos are critical equipment used in concrete plants, precast plants, and other building material production facilities for the safe and efficient storage of powdered materials such as cement, fly ash, and slag. STS Global Machinery offers welded or bolted (modular) silo solutions in various volumes, from 30 tons to 500 tons, depending on your project's capacity and logistical needs.

Working Principle and Basic Equipment

The primary function of a cement silo is to store material, protecting it from external factors, and to transfer it to the cement auger in a controlled manner when necessary. This process is secured by standard silo equipment:

  • Silo Top Filter (Dust Collector): It ensures that the dusty air generated while the silo is being filled pneumatically from the silobase is filtered before being discharged, preventing dust from spreading into the environment.
  • Safety Valve (Pressure Relief Valve): It protects the silo structure by preventing the pressure inside the silo from reaching dangerous levels.
  • Level Indicators (Min-Max): It monitors the amount of material in the silo and gives a warning at the minimum level and stops filling at the maximum level.
  • Ventilation System (Jets): It prevents clumping by increasing the fluidity of the material waiting in the silo cone and ensures that it flows easily into the screw.
  • Cement Screw Conveyor: It is the main transmission organ that carries the cement from the silo to the cement weighing bunker of the concrete plant.

Bolted and Welded Silos: Logistical Advantages

Cement silos are divided into two main types based on production and transportation methods:

  • Welded Silos: They are typically manufactured in a single piece in a factory, typically in capacities up to 100 tons. While they can be more difficult to transport, they do not require on-site installation and are quicker to commission.
  • Bolted (Modular) Silos: They're especially ideal for large capacities (100 tons and above) and international shipments. They can be manufactured in pieces and easily fit into standard containers or trucks, significantly reducing shipping costs. They're easily assembled on site with bolted connections.
