Vertical Shaft Impactors (VSI) (VSI)
Vertical Shaft Impactors (VSI) (VSI) are modern crushers designed for the tertiary and quaternary crushing stages of crushing and screening plants, producing high-quality cubic aggregates and sand from materials of all hardness and abrasiveness. Their "stone-by-stone" principle provides an unrivaled solution for processing particularly challenging materials such as basalt, granite, and river material, where abrasion costs are high.
Working Principle: High Speed and Automatic Breaking
The working principle of VSI crushers is based on the effective use of kinetic energy imparted to the material by a rotor rotating at high speed within the crushing chamber:
- Material is fed vertically into a closed rotor through a feed pipe at the center of the crusher.
- The rotor throws the material at a high speed (45-60 m/s) against the inner walls of the crusher under the influence of centrifugal force.
- "Rock-on-Rock": The crusher's interior walls are lined with previously crushed and accumulated material. The material, launched at high speed, impacts this fixed bed of rock and breaks itself. This method minimizes material contact with wear parts, significantly reducing operating costs.
- "Rock-on-Anvil": Alternatively, special alloy metal anvils can be installed in the crushing chamber instead of the rock bed. In this configuration, the material is crushed by impacting the metal anvils, resulting in a higher reduction ratio.
- Crushed material is discharged from the bottom of the crusher by gravity. Rotor speed can be adjusted to control final product gradation and fineness.
Key Benefits and Features
- Superior Cubicity: The principle of "breaking stone by stone" allows the production of high quality aggregate with perfect cubic shape, by breaking the natural weak points of the material and relieving stress.
- Low Operating Cost: Especially in the closed rotor and rock-on-rock configuration, wear parts costs are minimal.
- High Efficiency: It offers efficient production with high capacities ranging from 90 tons to 450 tons per hour and low energy consumption.
- Flexible Configuration: It adapts to different material types and production targets with open or closed rotor options and stone lining or anvil crushing chamber configurations.
- Easy Maintenance: The hydraulic piston upper body lifting system reduces maintenance times by providing quick and safe access to the rotor and other wear parts.
Wide Application Areas
The high-quality cubic material produced by VSI crushers makes them indispensable for many sectors:
- High standards of sand and aggregate manufacturing for concrete and asphalt production.
- Efficient crushing of hard and abrasive materials (basalt, granite, river material).
- Preparation of road base and sub-base materials.
- Improving product quality and shape in existing aggregate and sand quarries (shape correction).
- Size reduction processes of industrial raw materials and mineral ores.
